Ardmore, OK .Funeral services for LaVerne Ashcraft is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Randy Ashcraft officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Craddock Funeral Home.

LaVerne was born April 14, 1925, in Chandler, Texas, to John W. and Ethel Massey Coleman.
She passed from this life on Jan. 20, 2010, in Indianapolis, at the age of 84.

LaVerne was preceded in death by her husband, C. D.; parents; Ethyl and John; and by eight brothers and sisters, George Truitt Coleman, Dalton Coleman, Travis Coleman, Gaston Coleman, John Coleman, Joe Coleman, Louise Wilson, and Majorie Scott.

LaVerne married the late Charles D. Ashcraft in Smith County, Texas, on Sept. 27, 1947. LaVerne grew up in East Texas and graduated from Van High School in Van, Texas, where she was a member of the tennis team. She worked in Tyler and in Dallas for Southwestern Bell Telephone as a supervisor. Her life was devoted to family, faith, and her church family. She taught pre-school Sunday School for over 40 years, choosing to influence the lives of children with the love of Christ.

She was also active in civic clubs and PTA. LaVerne moved to Ardmore, Okla., in 1972, when C. D. Ashcraft became a Senior Vice-President of Exchange National Bank.

She is survived by her daughters, Vicki Lynn Justice and husband, David of Indianapolis, and Janis LaVerne Satterfield and husband, John of Philadelphia; son, Dr. Charles Randall Ashcraft and wife, Ann of Richmond, Va.; and six grandchildren, Graham Ashcraft, Chad Justice, Erin Justice-Nikou, Reagan Justice, Drew Adair and Meredith Adair.

Pallbearers will be Graham Ashcraft, Chad Justice, Drew Adair, David Justice, John Satterfield and Aaron Nikou.

Viewing will be at the church Saturday at 9:30 a.m.
