Arline P. Cole, 83, died Thursday at a Portland hospital after a long illness.

Born in Portland, she was the daughter of Arthur P. and Winnifred L. Pratt, and graduated from Portland High School in 1929.

Mrs. Cole was employed for many years in the food business, including Standard Brands, Inc., where she was a secretary for 10 years. Later she joined Morris Alper & Sons, Inc., food brokers, where she retired in 1971 after 18 years. After her retirement she worked as a volunteer for a Senior Citizen Craft Shop (LTA Shop) as a bookkeeper.

Her husband Gordon M. Cole died in 1966.

Surviving are two sons, Calvin Oakes of New Port Richie, Fla., and Donald A. Cole of Portland; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday at Hay & Peabody, 749 Congress St. Burial will follow in Forest City Cemetery.
