Richard "Bear" Cohrs, 68, was born on December 11, 1943, in Slayton, MN, the son of W. Gilbert and Jane (Wiertzema) Cohrs. He grew up and spent most of his life in the Worthington and surrounding areas. Richard graduated from Worthington High School in 1962. He worked as a truck driver and was also a scrap dealer for many years. Richard was an active member of the Eagle's Club in Worthington since 1986. He served as President and was named Minnesota Eagle Secretary of the Year. He enjoyed collecting coins, comics, and baseball cards at the flea markets and his cat, Sassie. Richard died on Friday, March 2, 2012, at his residence in Worthington.
Richard is survived by his aunt, Viola Nash of Moville, IA; his uncle, Ollie (Ivadel) Wiertzema of Jefferson, IA; many cousins; close friends, Les "Buzz" (Deb) Frodermann of Worthington, MN, along with his Eagle's family. He was preceded in death by his parents and several aunts and uncles.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at 1:00 p.m., at the Benson Funeral Home Chapel in Worthington, MN, with Brian Frodermann officiating. Burial will be in the Westbrook Cemetery.
