Charles James Cochran, 79, died at 2 a.m. today at home at 1024 Hackett st., after an illness of several months duration.
Mr. Cochran was a resident of Beloit for 45 years. He was a machinist in shops here for 18 years and for 23 years was custodian at Royce school, during which time hundreds of school children knew him as a friend.
He was born at Oxford Station, Canada, Nov. 19, 1868. He married Jessie Smith of Rockford, Dec. 13, 1900. In 1902 they moved to Beloit, where their home has been ever since. For the past five years Mr. and Mrs. Cochran have lived at the home of their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Cochran, at 1024 Hackett st.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian church and a 35-year member of the E.R.A. lodge.
Surviving are his wife, a son, Ray; and a sister, Mrs. Robert Halley. Two children preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian church. Friends may call at the Rosman-Uehling-Kinzer mortuary between 7 and 9 p.m. Friday.
