Elias was born in Young Township the son of Joseph (1801-1865) and Eliza Ann (Cary) (1810-1900) Cochran. He married, in 1871, Ruth Miller

Elias C Cochran, who for the past ten years had been a salesman for the Neal Granite and Marble Company in Punxsutawney, was found dead in bed Saturday evening in the West Indiana House, in this place. Mr Cochran, who had been making his home at the Hotel Bennis in Punxsutawney for several months, came to Indiana Wednesday of last week to take treatment from Dr. E. F. Shaulis. He arose Saturday morning but went back to bed, complaining that he did not feel well. Late that evening, Mr Houck, the proprietor, went to his room to ascertain if he needed anything and found him dead. The coroner was called and he decided that his death was due to heart failure. He was 71 years of age. The deceased, who had spent practically all his life in the vicinity of Punxsutawney, where he owns a large farm and had been a resident of that city for the past ten years. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge of Punxsutawney. His first wife, who was Miss Ruth Miller, died about 14 years ago. The body was taken to Punxsutawney Sabbath evening and from there was taken to the house of Marion Cochran, who resides on the old homestead near Big Run. He is survived by four sons, Marion, of near Big Run; Bain and Emil of Pittsburgh, and Ira of Illinois and two daughters, Mrs. Bundy of Illinois and Mrs. Henry Weiss of Clarion. Funeral services will be held this Wednesday afternoon and interment at Big Run.
