Georgia Mae (Cobbs) Baker was born on July 20, 1928 in Robertson County, Tennessee, the daughter of Joseph Robert Cobbs Sr and Sallie Ann Elizabeth (Washington) Cobbs.

She graduated from Bransford High School in 1946 as class valedictorian and participated in many school activities, including being a member of the honor society and leading the history study club.

On October 27, 1946 she was married to John F Baker Sr.

Georgia was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church in Springfield and later joined the Greater South Baptist Church where she held several offices. In 1996 she became a charter member of the New Mount Lebanon Baptist Church, which later became True Vine Baptist Church. There she served faithfully on the Mother's Board until her health failed.

She was a very loving, giving and caring person with a lovely smile. She enjoyed making a happy home for her family, cooking, gardening and raising flowers. She was a second mother to many of the children who grew up in the neighborhood with her children, and she was affectionately referred to at Mama or Mama Georgia. Everyone was always welcome in her home--friends, relatives, church members or anyone who simply wanted to visit.

Georgia passed away on June 12, 2015.

Preceded in death by her husband and by her son Joe Thomas Baker Sr, she was survived by a daughter; son; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; five 2nd-great-grandchldren; three sisters-in-law; and a great number of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral Services were held at Greater Faith Apostolic Church, and burial was in Restlawn Memorial Gardens.
