Mrs. Sarah Cobb Bacon died unexpectedly on December 1st, 2015 in Snellville, GA at the age of 73. Sarah was born on February 13, 1942 in Tampa, FL to Bill and Knox Cobb (neé Bess.) She grew up in Waynesville, NC and graduated Valedictorian of her senior class in 1960.

At 6' 2" tall she literally stood head and shoulders above many friends, teachers and classmates. She graduated from Duke University in 1964 with a B.A. in Economics and remained a lifelong fan of Blue Devils basketball. After moving to Atlanta, she began working for Norfolk Southern Corporation and retired as a transportation analyst after almost 30 years with the company. While at Norfolk Southern she received national recognition as railroad woman of the year from the American Council of Railroad Women. She met her husband James S. Bacon, Jr. at the Atlanta Sky Hi Club, now the Atlanta Tall Club and they enjoyed 41 years of marriage until his passing in 2011. Sarah was an active and dedicated member of Mount Carmel Christian Church. Her children remember her as a kind and loving mother who treasured her many friends and coworkers.

Sarah is survived by sons Wes Bacon of Lilburn, Will and Dorie Bacon of Sylvania, stepsons Walt and Kathleen Bacon of Lilburn, Wade and Lynda Bacon of Lawrenceville, brother Bill, Jr. and Dianne Cobb of Bethania, NC, brother Hilary and Elaine Cobb of Clyde, NC, sister Knox and Charles Hardin, of Canton, NC, grandson Paulk Bacon, and step-grandchildren Whitley, Carl, and Erica Bacon.

She is preceded in death by her husband James Bacon of Lilburn.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, December 3 at from 9 to 11 a.m. at Mount Carmel Christian Church; 6015 Old Stone Mtn Rd; Stone Mountain, GA 30087 where the Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11 a.m., Rev.
