Frank H. Clifford, 90, of Victoria, died at 5:55 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, 2008, at the Knox County Nursing Home in Knoxville.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 3, at Rux Funeral Home in Galva. Pastor Sarah Wanck will officiate. Visitation will be 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Victoria Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by the Victoria American Legion. Memorials may be directed to the Community Care Fund, c/o the Victoria Methodist Church, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
Frank was born July 30, 1918, in Victoria, the son of Frank and Vesta (Bothwell) Clifford. He married Edna M. Briggs on April 12, 1949, in Galesburg. She preceded him in death June 3, 2000. Survivors include five daughters, Cheryl (Garrison) Cone' of Bloomington, Joyce (Terry) Steward of Galva, Margie (Jim) Tossell of Kewanee, Phyllis Clifford of Galesburg and Debbie Clifford of Victoria; a sister, Mary Hendricks of Blue Springs, Mo.; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He also was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, George; and three children in infancy, Susan Kay and twins Frank and Frances.
Frank graduated from Victoria High School in 1937. He served his country in the Army during WWII. He had farmed and worked at Butler Manufacturing in Galesburg for 30 years. In his early years he worked at the Powelson-Simpson House and Lumberyard in Victoria. He served as sexton from 1976-2003 at the Victoria Cemetery and at cemeteries in Salem and Center Prairie. He was a member of the Victoria Methodist Church, the Knox County Farm Bureau since 1963, the Steelworkers Union 2629 and Victoria American Legion Post 726.
As Albert Einstein reminds us, "Our death is not an end if we can live on in our children and grandchildren. For they are in us, our bodies are only wilted leaves on the trees of life."
