Eleanor Mae Sopher, 86, of Victoria, died at 4:37 a.m. Sunday, September 15, 1996, at St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.
Born November 13, 1909, in Perry to Oska and Gertrude Durbin Rowe, she married George P. Sopher on April 4, 1930, in Galesburg. He survives.
Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Fred (Patsy) McDowell of Altona, one son, Edward Sopher of Colstrip, Montana, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one brother, Lester Rowe of South Holland; one stepbrother, Kenneth Clifford of Moline; and one stepsister, Lucy States of Galva. She was preceded in death by one brother and one stepsister.
She was raised and educated in Victoria, graduating from Victoria High School. She attended the Macomb Teachers College in Macomb. She taught school m rural Knox County for five years.
She worked at the Knox County Day Nursery in Galesburg for 13 years, retiring in 1982.
She was a member of United Methodist Church in Victoria and its former Sunshine Class.
Graveside memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Victoria Cemetery, the Rev. David Enge officiating. There is no visitation. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Home in Oneida is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to her church or a charity of the donor's choice.
