Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22 at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. with burial following at Akers Cemetery.
Edith was born in Mertens on Jan. 17, 1913. She was the daughter of George W. and Rebecca S. Clements. At an early age, her family moved to Gunter and then to the Sperry Community near Dorchester where she grew up on their family farm. She was one of ten children - five boys, and five girls.
On March 22, 1931, she married Lou Dillon "Red" Wilsford in Durant, Okla. and the following year, had a daughter, Peggy Lou. Much of her life was spent working alongside her husband farming and raising cattle in Gunter. She not only prepared meals to feed the workers, but kept the business records and managed the finances.
Her interests, other than family, were her church, and her friends. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Gunter and later Trinity Baptist Church in Sherman and enjoyed singing in choir throughout her life. She was a charter member of the Dorchester Home Demonstration Club and member of the Gunter Community Club.
Edith will be remembered for her wonderful smile, laugh, and love of life. She lived in Grayson County for more than 90 years before moving to Bryan in 2003.
She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Hollingsworth; sister, Dorothy Knowles; grandson, Phillip Hollingsworth; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family asks that remembrances be made to The Crestview Volunteers, 2505 E. Villa Maria Rd., Bryan, Texas 77802, or to Akers Cemetery Association, c/o Bill Bennett, 316 Merriman Pkwy., Sherman, TX 75090.
