Delane Cleaver, 71, of Newton, passed away at 8:34 p.m. Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday at Blake-Buchanan Funeral Home in Newton with Masonic rites at 7 p.m. Funeral services celebrating Delane's life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Chris Parr officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Cemetery in Newton.
Mr. Cleaver was born October 22, 1938, in Olney, the son of Ray and Anna O. (Knackmuhs) Cleaver. He married Karen Floken on September 14, 1958. She survives.
He worked at First National Bank in Newton for 40 years and was the Executive Vice President. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Newton, Newton Masonic Lodge #216; 32nd Degree Mason and member of Valley of Danville Consistory, Shriners, and Ainad Temple. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, camping and tinkering in his garage.
Mr. Cleaver is survived by his wife of 51 years, Karen Cleaver, of Newton; son, David Cleaver and his wife, Missy, of Newton; daughter, Julie Shelton and her husband, Michael, of Winnetka; sister, Carol Redman and her husband, Leon, of Olney; five grandchildren, Josh Cleaver and his wife, Andrea, and Jessica Harris and her huband, Tim, both of Newton, and Steven Shelton, Michelle and Hayley Shelton, all of Winnetka; three great-grandchildren, Payton and Parker Harris, of Newton, and Nolen Cleaver, of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Anna O. Cleaver, and his grandson, Jarret David Cleaver, on February 4, 2009.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Multiple Sclerosis Society or American Cancer Society.
