Nancy (Bagwell) Is the second wife of Sampson Clayton.

CHILDREN FROM THIS UNION ARE:
Jesse T. Clayton
Nancy Jane Clayton
Mary Malinda Clayton
Samuel Clayton
Joshua Clayton
Sarah V Clayton

Sarah V. (Clayton) who is the youngest child of Nancy and Sampson Clayton, is also buried in this cemetery. Evidently Sarah never married.

Nancy is the daughter of Jesse and Mary (Rayborne) Bagewell. Mary was a Full Blooded Cherokee Indian.

SAMPSON CLAYTON WAS FIRST MARRIED TO ELERES EBBIES

CHILDREN FROM THIS UNION ARE:
Levi Ranson Clayton, who married Nancy Ann (Henson)
Issac Lemmons who married Sareana (Gaines)
Martha Elizabeth (Clayton) who Married William Burgess
Martha and William had one child
a Son, William Sampson.
William Burgess was killed in the Civil War
and is buried in Thornrose Cemetery,
Staunton, VA.

NOTE:
Sampson is buried beside his first wife
Eleres Ebbies in Bethlehem church Cemetery in
Cumming (Forsyth County) GA.

On January 28, 1892, Nancy married George Washington West. George Washington died in 1900 a year before Nancy. This was probably just a marriage of convenience for both.
Records show that Sarah V. was living with them at the time. More evidence that Sarah never married.

Note:
IF ANYONE KNOWS WHERE MARTHA ELIZABETH (CLAYTON)
BURGESS OR LEVI RANSON AND NANCY ANN (HENSON) CLAYTON
ARE BURIED WOULD YOU PLEASE CONTACT ME.
THANK YOU.

~~~NOTE~~~~
I know my Great Grandfather
Levi Ranson Clayton enlisted
in the Cherokee Legion State Guards
out of Cherokee County, Canton Georgia
on 7-22-1865. Made 5th Sgt. 11-9-1863
and was detailed from the Civil War
in 1-1-1864, to run his Grist Mill
for the Soldiers.
Levi's unit of 15 men surrended
at Bentonville, Tn. on 4-26-1865.
1870 Census records show Levi Ranson
and his wife Nancy Ann (Henson)
living on the same road and next door
to Nancy Jane (Bagwell Clayton).
The 1880 census shows Nancy Ann
(Henson) Clayton living in
Pickens County with her children
and Levi isn't listed as living
in the household. Nancy is
listed as widowed.
Something happened to Levi Ranson
in the time period within that
10 year time frame, but what?
And then both Levi and Nancy
seem to drop off the face of
the earth? I can't find anything
else on them at all after 1880?
No death or burial records for either?
I don't know what happened to the 600 Acres
his father left him in his will?
This is very, very strange
and sure has me puzzled!
If anyone that reads this,
has any information on Levi Ranson
and/or Nancy Ann (Henson) Clayton.
Would you please contact me.
I would certainly appreciate
any and all information! Thank you!
~~~IN MEMORY OF AN ANCESTOR FROM LONG AGO~~~
Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and the date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care,
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist,
You died Before I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you,
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse,
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled,
A long, long time ago.
Spreads out among the ones you left,
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew.
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.
