Visitation will be held for Jerry Dean Claypool at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles St.) from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 29, 2004 and funeral services will be held Thursday, December 30, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. at the Hope Christian Center, 210 E. Brundage Lane, Bakersfield, CA. Pastor Billie Woods will officiate. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
Jerry Dean Claypool was born to John and Melba Claypool on October 29, 1956 in Independence, Missouri and he went to be with his Lord on December 24, 2004 in Bakersfield, CA.
Jerry was preceded in death by a son, Jerrod Claypool; his sisters, Georgia Carol Claypool and Shirley Jo Claypool-Morgan. He is survived by his father, Dr. John Claypool and mother, Melba June Claypool of Tehachapi, CA and brother, John R. Claypool of Bakersfield, CA and also his longtime companion, Doris Gaze of Bakersfield, CA.
Jerry moved to Bellflower, CA with his father, mother, sister and brother in 1960 where he attended elementary school, then he moved to Bakersfield, CA in 1968 where he attended and graduated from Foothill High School. Following high school Jerry pursued a career in automotive repair. He purchased Hoppity Honda, one of the first independent Honda Automotive repair shops in Kern County, which he has operated for over 25 years. His hobbies consisted of building and driving race cars. He competed at both the Bakersfield Speedway and Mesa Marin Raceway.
