As Sarah Elizabeth Carothers, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jack Carothers, she was born near Lakenan, MO. May 1, 1864, and had spent her entire life in this community. She was united in marriage to Benjamin Clarkson 63 year ago 18 May 1886 in Clifton, Randolph County, Missouri and they were the parents of six children, two dying while young. Her husband died 26 years ago.
She united with the Christian Church in early life. She was a devoted mother and was always doing the loving deeds for her children that only a mother does "Grandma" Clarkson, as she was called, will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Surviving her are one daughter and three sons, Mrs. Ethel Stewart, and Arthur, Otis and Marvin Clarkson, all of Hunnewell, she also leaves four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held from the Christian church Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev. E.H. Simmons of Shelbina, burial will be in the Hunnewell Cemetery. (Godfrey Cemetery)
