Clarke, Sir Caspar Purdon, Kt.: Director of Metropolitan Museum of Art, formerly keeper of art collections and ass't dir, afterward dir. of the Art Museum, South Kensington, London, until July, 1905; dir. of Metropolitan Museum of Art, N. Y. City, Sept. 1905. Born Dec. 21, 1846, in London, England, son of Edward Marmaduke Clarke. Educated France and England (LL.D. from McGill Univ., Montreal) Chevalier of Legion d'Honeur, France, 1878; Companion of the Order of the Indian Empire, 1883; in 1902 created knight. Commander's Cross, Order of the Crown (Germany). Married Frances Susannah, daughter of Charles Collins, in 1866. Address: Metropolitan Museum of Art, N. Y. City, U.S.A.
