The Springdale News
December 6, 1912
C.C. Clarke died Friday evening at seven o'clock at the home of his son-in-law, Dr. C.F. Perkins, three miles northwest of Springdale. Funeral services were held at the Perkins home Sunday afternoon at three o'clock, conducted by Rev. N.M. Ragland of Fayetteville. The remains were taken to Bentonville Monday morning for interment in the family lot. A short service was conducted at the grave by Dr. Pinkerton, pastor of the Christian church at Bentonville.
Deceased was born at Macomb, Ill. November 24, 1839 and was united in marriage to Martha L. Lea October 6, 1859. Eight children were born to this union, all living to maturity, but the three eldest preceded their father to the better world. Mr. Clarke moved to Bentonville in 1883 where he made his home until 1897 when he came to Springdale. He lived in this vicinity until two years ago when he moved to a farm near Rogers. He had been in ill health for more than a year and spent last winter in California hoping that the change would prove beneficial. Four weeks ago he and Mrs. Clarke came to the home of Dr. Perkins where they expected to spend the winter. On Wednesday afternoon he grew suddenly worse and the end soon came.
Besides his widow deceased is survived by five children, three daughters and two sons: Edith, wife of Dr. Perkins; Lea, residing in Chicago; Mae, wife of H. C. Risteen of Winslow, Arizona; Charlie; and Vena, wife of B. V. Cole of Shenandoah, Iowa.
Mr. Clarke had been since 1868 a member of the Christian church and at the time of his death his membership was with the organization in Springdale. He was a genial, companionable man, a born optimist who always looked upon the bright side of life and who never failed to have a pleasant word for those whom he met. This happy disposition naturally won for him many friends who learned of his death with much regret.
