MARION–Priscilla “Aunt Sim” (Clark) Bock, 89, of New Bedford, died Friday, September 25, 2009, at the Sippican Healthcare Center in Marion, after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. She was the wife of Herman Frederic Bock, with whom she shared a sixty-three year marriage.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Frederick and Claire (Bartlett) Clark, she was a lifelong resident of the city. She was educated in the New Bedford Public Schools and was a graduate of Kinyon Campbell Business School. She worked in the Nonquit and Wamsutta Mills and retired after thirty years’ service from the former Star Store.
Mrs. Bock enjoyed playing cards, crossword and jigsaw puzzles and was an avid reader of Harlequin romance novels. She was a member and past president of the Independent Retail Clerks Union Retirees Club.
In addition to her husband, she leaves a daughter, Patricia Bock of New Bedford; two nieces, Bette Sue Machado of New Bedford and Sharon Bowman of New York; and four nephews, Bruce A. Potter of New Bedford, John Clark of Mattapoisett, Jonathan Clark of Fairhaven, and Damon Clark of New York. Mrs. Bock was the mother of the late Janice J. Bock and the sister of the late Virginia Milligan, Elizabeth Potter and Louis, Freeman and Bartlett Clark, as well as the aunt of the late Frederick Clark.
Calling hours will be held Tuesday, September 29, 2009, from 5:00-7:00PM in THE DONAGHY FUNERAL HOME, 465 County Street, New Bedford. Her funeral will process Wednesday at 9:30AM from the funeral home to Newport Memorial Park for a graveside service at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
