Former Grants Pass resident Verna "Leona" Barrong, 92, of Salem died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011.Services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Missionary Baptist Church, with Milton Hayes, pastor, officiating. Howell, Edwards, Doerksen with Rigdon-Ransom Funeral Directors in Salem is in charge of arrangements.Barrong was born Oct. 27, 1918, in Naylor, Ark. She was a charter member of Missionary Baptist Church for more than 40 years.Survivors include two daughters, Joy F. Shankle of Salem, and Carol L. Anderson of Ridgefield, Wash.; two sons, Billy R. Barrong of Mapleton, and Jimmy D. Barrong of West Linn; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.Her husband, Willie Barrong, and a son, Bobby D. Barrong, died before her.
