Leona married Arthur Churchill May 18, 1938. To this union one son, Gary, was born. They were lifelong residents of Chariton.
Leona was a member of Grace Baptist Church and had been a Sunday School teacher for many years. Her faith in God gave her a peace in her life that not everyone can know. She was quiet and was rich, not with money, but real things in life that really matter.
When Leona passed away March 22, the family knew that her long-awaited trip to go home was complete and it was for sure that God had a special place waiting for her.
Leona was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur; her parents; one sister, Martha; one brother, Homer; and one grandson, David A. Churchill.
Leona is survived by her son, Gary E. Churchill and wife Marion of Chariton; three grandchildren, Arthur, Linda and Mary; four great-grandchildren, Ryan and Katie Crawford and Megan and Heather Churchill; one step-granddaughter, Crystal Johnson; three step-great-grandchildren, Joey Munoz, Alyse Johnson and Derek Briggs; and very special step-great-great-grandson, Bailey Cordonnier.
Services for Leona were held March 24, 2000 at 1:30 p.m. at the Mosher Funeral Home in Chariton. Pastor Dennis St. Lawrence officiated. Virginia Orwig played the organ. Karol Johnston sang "Amazing Grace," "Will the Circle be Unbroken" and "The Old Rugged Cross." Interment was at the Chariton Cemetery.
