Adella S. Barkes, 97, of Pennsylvania Street, died Saturday, February 12, 2012, at 10:20 a.m. at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Adella was a homemaker and a member of Sandy Hook United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for several years, was a communion steward for 10 years and treasurer of Willing Workers Class for 14 years. She also was a member of Order of Eastern Star where she received her 50-year pin in 1986, was a board member of Rainbow for Girls and was the recipient of the Grand Class of Color.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Barkes, Weaver & Glick Funeral Home on Washington Street.
Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to time of service Wednesday.
Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.

Born in Columbus January 19, 1915, Adella was the daughter of Ed and Stella Carter Christopher.
She married Paul D. Barkes December 8, 1935. He preceded her in death April 12, 1990.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Joan Barkes of Columbus; a niece, Norella Wilson of New Castle; nephews, Artie Schwenk of Columbus and Bill Scott of Colorado; grandchildren, Curt (Carol) Barkes of Columbus, Catherine (Jim) Bowie of Noblesville, Greg (Angie) Kendall of Columbus and Derek (Melissa) Barkes of Columbus; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, Beulah Schwenk and Genevieve Scott; a daughter, Connie M. Barkes; and a son, Edgar A. Barkes.
