Edith Christopher died February 14, 2001 in Sun Valley, California where she was being cared for the last three months by her son, John and daughter-in-law, Luella. Edith was born August 2, 1910 in Crawford, Kansas.
She is survived by two sons, John of Sun Valley and his wife, Luella; and James of Rosamond; grandchildren: Jed, Dennis, Mark, Vicky Wolf, Gail Sawyer, and Ginger Krause; six great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren, as well as a nephew and other dear relatives and friends .
Edith was the last surviving child of Eli Grant and Vina F. Sisney of Sunland, CA. The Sisney's moved to Sunland in 1919 from Kansas. Edith eloped in 1926 with John Christopher at the young age of 16 years old. Their marriage lasted 68 years until John's death in 1995.
A busy woman
In 1933 Edith began a newspaper career writing a social column for a small paper in the San Fernando Valley and then worked for various newspapers in the area. She also worked for the Roscoe Chamber of Commerce, helped organized the Sun Valley Business and Professional Women's Club and served as their first president. Edith owned and operated her own print shop for 11 years in Sun Valley.
When her husband, John, retired after 32 years from Lockheed, the couple moved from Sun Valley to Newhall for a brief time, and then in 1978 moved to Rosamond in the Antelope Valley. There she became involved in writing for the Rosamond News, the Mojave Desert News, the Antelope Valley Press, and the California Senior Citizens tabloid, working until she was 85 years old. Other groups she was active in included the Rosamond Woman's Club and the Antelope-Kern Historical Society.
She was a kind, thoughtful and caring person and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
