Clara was born to parents Andrew and Ellen Brende on August 14, 1900, on a farm near Renner. She grew up near Renner and attended Augustana Normal. Clara taught rural school in Minnehaha County for a few years and then moved to the Oakland, California area. She married Ingemann Soren "Curley" Christensen on July 3, 1934, in California. They lived in San Bernardino where Ingemann owned Christensen Ice Cream Company with his brother. Ingemann died February 2, 1970. Clara moved back to Sioux Falls and later moved to the Brandon area.
She was a member of the Renner Lutheran Church, the Renner and Swedona Ladies Aids, Augustana Fellows, Sons of Norway, Baltic American Legion Auxiliary and Minnehaha County Historical Society. Clara and her sister, Emily, translated the Norwegian Pioneer History of Minnehaha County and helped with the Renner Lutheran Church History.
Clara died Saturday, November 24, 1990, at the Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls.
Grateful for having shared her life are her brother, Elmer Brende, Sr., Renner; a sister, Emily Sittig, Brandon; a step-sister, Margaret Wilkin, Bloomington, Minnesota; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother and six sisters.
