Nell Catherine Choate was the daughter of Toy Mae Woods and Emmett Choate.
A 1937 graduate of Bakerville High School. Catherine married Gray Arco Cavender, Jr. on May 17, 1940 and they moved to Durham, North Carolina where Gray served during World War II. To this union a son was born, Dr. Gray Arco Cavender III, wife Dr. Nancy Jurik. Grandmother of Jennifer Katherine Cavender. Great Grandson Michael Smith, Great Great Grandson Leo Smith. Niece Miriam Pace Longino.
Catherine worked as a dental assistant with Dr. James Powers, DDS. Secretary with Meriwether Lewis Electric Cooperative and Dickson Electric Cooperative. A member of Waverly Business and Professional Women's Club. The Garden Club, and Waverly High School Band Boosters Club. She was an experienced Seamtress and Cook. Catherine lived at 411 East Main Street, Waverly, and was a member of Waverly Church of Christ.
