Paul Theodore Choate
COLUMBUS, NC - Paul Theodore Choate, of Tryon Estates, Columbus, N.C., died November 4. Born December 25, 1915, in Lawrence, Mass., he was the son of the late Charles Henry and Pauline Culver Choate. A textile executive, he retired after 41 years of service with The Kendall Company in Rhode Island, South Carolina and Massachusetts. From 1964 to 1967 he was manager of Kendall's Bethune, S.C., plant.
He was a 1939 graduate of Harvard College with a B.S. degree in engineering sciences. A pilot in the Army Air Corps and World War II veteran, he was a founding member of "Twirly Birds," an international organization of pioneer helicopter pilots.
A resident of Camden, S.C., for 33 years, he was a founding director of the Kershaw County Economic Development Board and served as its Chairman. He was active in wildlife preservation, an avid golfer, and a member of The Camden Country Club, Grace Episcopal Church, and the Harvard Club of S.C.
Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Genevieve Goudie Choate, sons Culver P. Choate (Mardy), David M. Choate (Betsy) of Columbia, S.C., daughter Nancy C. Curtis (Bill) of Tampa, Fla., and grandchildren Toccoa C. Patterson (James), Culver P Choate, Jr. (Cam), Charles G. Choate (Paige), John C. Choate (Julia), William D. Choate, W. Todd Curtis, Matthew C. Curtis (Amy), Genevieve E. Choate, and eight great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held Sunday, November 6. Interment will be in Lisbon, N.H.
