Louise's obituary read: "Mrs. Louise C. Bodine, age 38, well known young Covington woman, and wife of Robert E. Bodine, local mortician and re-elected Trustee of Troy Township, died at 5:55 a.m. Monday November 10, of injuries suffered Sunday morning in an automobile accident near Paducah, Kentucky. Mrs. Bodine and her husband were en route to Tampa, Florida, and were in a panel truck, belonging to Darrell Bever of Covington, pulling a house trailer for Mrs. Bodine's parents, Dr. and Mrs. R. D. Chew of Third Street. They left Covington on Saturday and had spent the night at Paducah. They left Paducah Sunday morning and had gone only about six or seven miles when a large semi-tractor trailer is reported to have crowded them off the road at about 9 a.m.
The panel truck and trailer went down a 12 foot embankment and it is thought that Mrs. Bodine was thrown out of the truck, which turned over on her and came to rest right side up. She suffered a fractured arm and ribs, ruptured spleen, kidney and intestines and was taken to Western Baptist Hospital at Paducah were she succumbed Monday morning. Her husband escaped with minor injuries.
Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Bever, close friends of the Bodines, were also en route to Florida and they were driving an automobile belonging to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Tittle of Danville, Illinois, formerly of Covington, and pulling a house trailer for the Tittles, who planned to remain in Florida for the winter. Mr. and Mrs. Tittle were riding with them. After reaching Florida with the two trailers, the Bodines and Bevers had planned a few days vacation before returning to Covington. Dr. and Mrs. Chew had expected to go to Florida probably in December for a month or two.
The Bevers were driving ahead of the Bodines and after they had gone about 20 miles they waited for the Bodines to catch up with them. When they didn't appear, the Bevers turned around and went back and then learned of the accident.
Mrs. Bodine was born in Covington January 17, 1920, the daughter of Dr. Roy D. and Birdella VanVliet Chew. She was married to Robert E. Bodine on August 3, 1941. She was graduated from Covington High School in 1938 and had attended Indiana State Teachers College, Terre Haute, for two years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Covington; a member and past president of the Alpha Gamma Chapter, Tri Kappa Sorority; a charter member of Pan Arts Club; a member and past president of the Coffeenian Club, and a member of the Auxiliary Unit of the Fulton Banta Post 291, American Legion, and Troy Chapter 145, Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving, in addition to her husband and parents, are: three children, David E., 11, Elizabeth Ann (Betsy), 9, and Peter K., 7, all at home; and one sister, Mrs. Gilbert (Betty) Springman of Williamsport. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the First Presbyterian Church here. The Rev. George Beatty assisted by the Rev. Alfred Gresse, officiated and burial, with Bodine & Shelby Funeral Home in charge, was in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers were: William Martin, Tom Emshwiller, Darrell Bever, Carl Henthorn, Dr. L. R. Stephens, Oral Hale, Joe Berrin, and Charles Eroy."
