ANADARKO Funeral service for Neenah Chebahtah, 62, Anadarko, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Branch President Mike Moore proceeding.

Burial will follow at Memory Lane under direction of Comanche Nation Funeral Home.

A Memorial Celebration will be held at Riverside Indian School Gymnasium at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
She returned with honor to her Heavenly Father on July 23, 2011.

She was born on May 24, 1949, to Clifford Chebahtah and Betty Lawrence Chebahtah in Lawton. She was a member of the Comanche Nation, a descendent of Delaware, Lipan Apache and Metis Nations. She was a direct descendent of Chief Wild Horse, Chief Black Beaver, Metis leader Gabrielle Riel and Medicine Man Chevto. She graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelors of Science in Family and Consumer Science. At the time of her death, she was teaching at Riverside Indian School. She had been an educator for over 30 years. Her students were her love. She contributed hundreds of hours to supporting her students in extracurricular activities such as cheerleading, class sponsors and Riverside basketball. She was an avid fan of Sooner football, the St. Louis Rams and Sam Bradford. She celebrated all the holidays with the appropriate festive head-bobbers and attire. She was known for her love of fabric and sewing, shoes and colorful flip-flops that matched every outfit. She was a Home Economics teacher that did not know how to cook.

She served a full time Mission in the Southwest Indian Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a dedicated supporter of Missionary Work and adopted many of them as her sons.

She is survived by sisters: Ruth Chebahtah and Sandra Chebahtah, both of Anadarko; and Ramona Almanza, Indiahoma; nephews: Christopher Chebahtah and wife, Michele, Jeffery Chebahtah and wife Heidi, all of California; David Chebahtah of the U.S. Army, Missouri; and Patrick Chebahtah and wife Liz, Scotland; grand nephews: Justin and wife Paola, California; Jacob Chebahtah of the U.S. Army, Hawaii; Russell Chebahtah of the U.S. Army, Georgia; Kyle Smith, Cyril; Adam Chebahtah and James Chebahtah, both of California; great nieces: Brook Smith and husband Dane, Pryor; Kymber Smith and Breanna Smith, both of Cyril; Sara Chebahtah and Jennifer Chebahtah, both of California; and Kylie Chebahtah, Missouri; a great-great-niece, Rayelyn Smith, Pryor; and a great-great-nephew, Cayden Smith, Pryor.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Clifford and Betty Chebahtah; sisters: Carol, Sharon, Dee; brother, Don Chebahtah; and niece, Sarah Smith.

She will be dearly missed by her family, R.I.S. students and staff and many, many friends.
