MOS:0311 Rifleman.
Wendell was living with his mother when he
was drafted into the Marines 3 November 1965
by the Oakland Selective Service Board.
Arriving in Vietnam Wendell was assigned to
Hotel Company,2nd Battalion,4th Marine
Regiment,3rd Marine Division.Hotel Company
engaged hostile forces in a fire fight about 8
kilometers north northwest of Dien Ban.
Wendell was wounded and was med-evac to a
hospital.Due to the nature of his wounds he
was flown to the USAF Hospital,at Clark Air
Base in the Philippine Islands.Wendell died 8
June 1968 as a result hostile small arms
gunshot wounds to the abdomen,small bowel
and liver sustained 21 May 1968.
Tour of duty unknown.
Survived by his mother,Frances E Horwege
Chatfield,his 2 sisters;Edith Ida,Joyce Allene
and 1 brother;Herbert all of 146 Walton Ave,
Red Bluff,CA.
His father;Oliver Wendell Chatfield died in
1964.
