Emmett J. Chase

The death of Emmett J. Chase, a highly respected life long resident of Otsego county, occurred this Thursday morning at 9 o'clock at the home of his grand-niece, Mrs. Earl C. Chase, at Whig Corners, where he had resided since April, 1938.
Mr. Chase was the son of William B. and Katherine M. (Becker) Chase and was born in the town of Westford June 22, 1853. May 29, 1879, he was united in marriage with Miss Alice Misson who death occurred March 13, 1938. He was a man of sterling character and a wide circle of friends will feel a keen sense of loss in his passing.
Mr. Chase in his early years resided in Westford and Westville and for thirty years was employed by the Iroquois farm. Twenty years ago he retired and lived in Pierstown until the death of his wife when he went to make his home with his grand-niece.
Survivors are three nephews, Elmer Ferris of Otego, Charles Ferris of Westville and John Potts of Florida. Other grand-nieces are Mrs. Paul Michaels of Fly Creek, Miss Zoe Potts of Rochester and Miss Dorothy Potts of Albany.
Funeral services will be held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Chase at Whig Corners Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, DST. The Rev. Dr. Wilbur S. Sheriff, pastor of the Cooperstown Baptist church officiating, and burial will be made in the family plot in Lakewood cemetery..
