PHOEBE GLADYS CHAPMAN WAS THE DAUGHTER OF JAMES WILLIAM AND LAURA ELLEN JENNINGS CHAPMAN.

SHE MARRIED CLAY EDWARD ANDERSON 14 OCT 1933 IN SCOTT COUNTY, VIRGINIA.

PHOEBE GLADYS CHAPMAN WAS THE SIBLING OF: KATHLEEN TABITHA, NANNIE MAE AND MARGARET I CHAPMAN.

KINGSPORT - Phoebe Gladys Chapman Anderson, 93, passed from this life at 4:10 p.m. Thursday (July 8, 2004).

Gladys served her Lord and her church for many years. She and her husband served as Communion Stewards and she served as Sunday School teacher for both children and adults and also kept the nursery at one time. All of this was served at Calvary Baptist Church where she had been a member since the early 1930's. She was active for many years in the WMU. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and Beauceant for many years.

Preceding her in death were her father and mother, Will and Laura Jennings Chapman; her husband, Clay E. Anderson; her daughter, Ruth Ella Anderson; her sisters, Margaret Chapman, Kathleen Peppers, and Nannie Mae Carroll; and an infant granddaughter, Charlotte Kay Anderson.

Surviving are her son, Bruce F. Anderson and wife, Carol; son-in-law, Leroy Sproles; five grandchildren, Kim Anderson, Janet Perry, Sheri Smith, Karen Capps, all of Knoxville, Tenn., and Gina Sproles of San Francisco, Calif.; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.

Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Frank Crawford and Rev. Crystal Salyers officiating.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oak Hill Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Marshall, Josh Frye, Patrick Williams IV, Scott Smith, Leroy Sproles, and Derek Blix.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lottie Moon Offering at Calvary Baptist Church, 1238 Pine St., Kingsport, Tenn. 37664 or to the Fair Share at Colonial Heights United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 6027, Kingsport, Tenn. 37663.
