Mr. Claude James Chapman, 67, of 516 East Washington Avenue, formerly of Charlotte, died Monday, February 26, 2001 at Century Care, Gastonia. Mr. Chapman was a native of Alexander County, NC, a son of the late Ed F. and Vera McBride Chapman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Jana Barnes and Anna Payne, and three brothers, Don, Walter and Ned Chapman. He was owner and operator of Chapman Masonry Contractors, Charlotte, NC, for over 35 years. He was a veteran of the US Army and a member of Bethel Baptist Church of Charlotte, NC.

Mr. Chapman is survived by his wife, Genoa C. Chapman, of the home; son, Richard Marc Chapman, Gastonia; daughter Vicki C. Wright, Cumberland, RI; sisters, Margie Presnell, Mary McGlamery, Clara Herman and brothers, Ronald and Paul Chapman, all of Taylorsville, NC; two grandchildren, Virginia Ann and Nathan Thomas Wright; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Chapman will be held on Thursday, March 1,2001 at 3pm at The Colonial Chapelof Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia, officiated by Rev. L.J. Mills andRev. Rick Duncan. Burial will be at Forest Lawn West Cemetery in Charlotte, NC. The family will receive friends at Carothers Funeral Home, Gastonia, on Thursday afternoon, 1-2:30pm prior to the service.
