Louise Calista Chapin, 89, of Corry, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 2002, at Hamot Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 10, 1912, in Venango Township, daughter of the late John H. and Nellie A. Smith Gorndt. She lived most of her life in eastern Erie County, including Union City.
She worked for Ray's Department Store in Union City, the Union City Chair Co. and the Union City High School cafeteria. She also worked as a grape farmer and for Western Auto Store.
She attended New Ireland and Mahan School.
She attended United Brethren Church in Union City and Faith Evangelical Church in Corry. She enjoyed traveling throughout the United States in the 1950s, sewing and flower gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Brown Chapin, whom she married May 25, 1931, and who died in 1991; a daughter, Martha Elaine Carter; a half brother, Elmer Gorndt; and a half sister, Edna Sherred.
Survivors include a sister, Anna May Welch of French Creek, N.Y.; her son-in-law, William Carter of Union City; and a grandson, Bruce Carter.
Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
