Bernice N. (Nichols) Chaffee, 87, of Johnson City, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2002 at Lourdes Hospital after a short illness. Mrs. Chaffee is survived by her husband, Ira M. Chaffee; her brother and sister-in-law, Arlton and Barbara Nichols, Vestal; sister-in-law and husband, Gertrude and Elmer Clark, Port Dickinson; one niece, Alexandra Nichols, Vestal; two nephews and their wives, Bruce and Anice Ellis, Vestal, Blaine and Baebara Ellis, Kirkwood; one niece, Cindy Ellis, Brooktondale, N.Y.; several grand nieces and nephews. Bernice taught in the Vestal Central and Union Endicott School Systems for 38 years. She was a member of the Vestal Methodist Church. Ira would like to give special thanks to his grand niece, Jaymilee (Ellis) Mash for her thoughtful help during Bernice's illness.
Memorial services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. from the Allen Memorial Home, 511-513 E. Main St., Endicott with pastor Mary Rickets, officiating. The family will receive friends at the memorial home Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time. Burial will be in Riverhurst Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Vestal United Mehtodist Church, 328 Main St., Vestal, N.Y. 13850.
