William Avery Ceperley was the son of Ellery Ceperley and Ella. He was a veteran of World War I. He retired as managing editor of the Morning Democrat. He married Elizabeth Helen Guy. Their children are William, Richard, Robert and Betty.

William A. Ceperley, 66 retired managing editor of the Morning Democrat died of a heart attack at 10 p.m., Wednesday in his home at 1117 Arlington Ave., Davenport. Mr. Ceperley suffered a stroke 20 months ago, and had been confined to his home since that time. Cause of death was described as a "severe coronary." Widely known in his early newspaper days as a top reporter, Mr. Ceperley also gained considerable recognition as a cartoonist. His by-line of "Cep" was a familiar trade-mark on Democrat cartoons in the 1930's. Mr. Ceperley was born March 23, 1890 in Cedar Falls, the son of Ella and Ellery Ceperley. He was educated in Cedar Falls schools. He married Elizabeth Guy, May 1, 1919, in Davenport. After working on newspapers in Waterloo, Des Moines and Sioux City, Mr. Ceperley joined the staff at the Democrat in 1917. He covered the Scott County courthouse for many years. In 1931, he became city editor of the Democrat and was named managing editor in 1951 following the death of Hugh Harrison. He retired last Oct 15. An active member of the Mt. Ida Presbyterian church, he served as an elder for 20 years. He was a past president of the church board of trustees. With their children, Mr. and Mrs. Ceperley were named the church's outstanding family of 1952 at the annual candlelight Christmas service. He and his wife directed the young married group at the church for many years. Mr. Ceperley was a veteran of World War I having served in the Army. Survivors include his wife, his mother, Mrs. Ella Ceperley, Des Moines; three sons, William A., Denver, Richard, Davenport and Rev. Robert, Storm Lake, Ia., and a daughter, Mrs. Lawrence Rogers also of Davenport. A sister, Mae, died in 1924. The body is at Hill and Fredericks mortuary.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Hill & Fredericks Chapel for William A. Ceperley 66, retired managing editor of the Morning Democrat. He died of a heat attack at 10 p.m. Wednesday in his home at 1117 Arlington Ave., Davenport. The Rev. John A. Lewis, pastor of the Mt. Ida Presbyterian Church, will officiate and burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary. The family requests that in lieu of flowers. friends wishing to do so may contribute to the building fund of Mt. Ida Presbyterian Sunday School.
