WILLIAM BERNARD CECIL, 77, of Owensboro passed away Friday, December 14, 2007 at his home. Born March 24, 1930 in Daviess County, Mr. Cecil was the son of the late Charles Leo and Georgia Mattingly Cecil; was a farmer; member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church; enjoyed woodworking; and especially enjoyed spending time with his family. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cecil was preceded in death by a sister, Sr. George Ann Cecil, a brother, Charles Leo Cecil, Jr, and a son-in-law, Charlie Riney. He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Mary Ruth Knott Cecil; a son, Bill (and Debbie) Cecil of Madison, AL; daughters, Mary Ann Ebelhar of Owensboro, Cathy (and Phil) Ebelhar of Owensboro, Lynn (and Jeff) Hofer of Owensboro, Jane (and Gary) Bratcher of Owensboro, Faye Riney of Owensboro, Michelle (and Steve) Sharp of Owensboro, Shelia (and Roger) Walker of Dallas, TX, Christy (and Jimmy) Gilles of Owensboro, Marcie (and Joe) Fischer of Owensboro; 37 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, Hugh (and Betty) Cecil of Stanley, Bobby (and Bobbi) Cecil of Owensboro, Leon (and Missy) Cecil of Lutz, FL, Paul (and Beverly) Cecil of Owensboro, Frankie (and Rita) Cecil of Owensboro; sisters, Marie Simmons of Owensboro and Mildred (and J.C.) Higdon of Owensboro; and many nieces and nephews. Services are 10 A.M. Monday, December 17, 2007 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church with burial following in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 P.M. on Sunday and after 8:30 A.M. on Monday. Prayers will be at 7 P.M. on Sunday evening at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to The ALS Association, Development Department, 27001 Agoura Rd, Ste 150, Calabasas, CA 91301.
