Mr. S. Monroe Cecil died at the Lincoln Hospital in this city Tuesday evening. He had been confined to his bed for about three weeks of a complication of diseases incident to age. About ten days ago he was moved from his home four miles from Springfield on the Bardstown road to the hospital for medical attention. After death called the remains were taken to the home of Mr. Cecil's neighbor, Mr. T. J. Wheatley, where they lay in state until this morning.
Mr. Cecil was seventy-four years of age and had resided here since moving from Marion county about twenty years ago. He was one of the county's most successful farmers and was well and favorably known throughout the county. He was a consistent member of St. Rose Catholic Church and bore the esteem and affection of all those with whom he had dealings.
Mr. Cecil is survived by his wife and two brothers.
Funeral services were held at St. Rose at 10 o'clock this morning and burial was in this church cemetery.
