Mr. Garland Robert Cather, 79, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Friday, November 17, 2006 in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Cather was born on September 15, 1927 in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late Thomas Newton and Mary Etta Yeakley Cather. He was a farmer his entire life until the time of his death. Mr. Cather, along with his brother George, were the original owners of Cather's Market. He was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd and a charter member of the Round Hill Ruritan Club. He was a member of the Winchester Moose Lodge 1283 and the Eagles Club Aerie 824. He was a charter member and the first Fire Chief of the Round Hill Community Fire Company. He was a member of the Virginia Farm Bureau, the Virginia Angus Association, the Virginia Fruit Grower's Association and the Frederick County Fruit Grower's Association.
Mr. Cather married Louise Singhas on September 3, 1949, in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife, are a son, Tyree Scott Cather, and his wife, Jaaska of Gore; a daughter, Kellie Faith Cather Keplinger, and her husband, Rocky of Winchester; three brothers, Ray Newton Cather of Berryville, and Clarence Edward Cather and George William Cather of Winchester; and three grandchildren, Tiffany Kaminsky and her husband, Robert, Allison Marie Cather and Austin Tyree Cather. Two sisters, Hilda Cather Milburn and Nancy Sue Barbour and three brothers, Earl Lee Cather, Richard Swimley Cather and John Hunter Cather have preceded him in death.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with the Reverend Jeff Barbour and the Reverend Dr. Ruth Crum Stotler officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Roy Fraizer, Mike Cather, Glynn Barbour, Ronnie Clowser, Charlie See, Joe Milburn, Pressley Pullen and Larry Mahns.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Round Hill Ruritan Club.
The family will receive friends at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel on Monday evening from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Church of the Good Shepherd, 645 Berryville Ave., Winchester, VA 22601 or Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Winchester, VA 22601.
