Mrs. John Catchings Dies Suddenly In Chicago, Ill.
Word has been received in Lovington of the death of Mrs. John Catchings in Chicago Thursday, while visiting friends and relatives there.
Mrs. Catchings, one of Lea County's oldtimers moved to Sweetwater, Texas, about a year ago to make her home.
She and Mr. Catchings homesteaded at Humble City in 1909 and at the time they moved to Sweetwater, donated a large ranch to the Abilene Christian College. A cafeteria at the college was named for the Catchings.
They also reserved a 160 acre farm at Humble City to have as a home if they decided they didn't like Sweetwater.
Funeral services will be held in Sweetwater sometime Sunday. The time and place is not known.
