George W. Cassteel, who passed away at the home of his step-son, Henry Mickle, 409 Franklin street, Friday, November 7th, was laid to rest Friday afternoon, November 14 following services at the Jones Funeral Chapel at 1:30 o'clock in charge of the Rev. Guy J Winslow. Pallbearers were: Messrs. Ollie Mickle, Ray Mickle, Geo. B. Johnson, Ed Mickle, Richard Mickle and Gale Mickle.
Mesdames J. J. Shelley and J. E. Nutt sang three songs, "Going Down the Valley," "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Sometime Somewhere." They were accompanied by Mrs. V. B. Davis. The floral tributes were taken care of by Mesdames W. H. Burwell and Geo. Price. Interment was in Linwood Park cemetery, west.

Cassteel was born in the state of Indiana, July 25, 1848 and departed this life at the home of his step-son, Henry Mickle, 409 Franklin street, Boone, Iowa, Friday morning, November 7, 1930, aged 82 years, 8 months and 12 days. When but a lad of eight years he came with his parents to Iowa, who settled on a farm near Mineral Ridge in Boone county. The remainder of his life spanning 74 years was spent here.
Mr. Cassteel was a man of quiet and unassuming temperment (sic). He was a good citizen and a man with strong religious convictions of the Universalist faith. He was upright, honest and hard working. The greatest part of his life was spent in teaming. Through the heat of the summers and the cold of the winters he toiled the long years through to support his loved ones and maintain his home. He exemplified in his life the virtues of patience, generosity, kindness, charity and good will -- and now his day's work is over. He is delivered from the burden of the flesh and his soul has gone to its creator.

He was united in marriage to Miss Rebecca Johnson in the year 1871. To this union were born eleven children, three of whom preceded him in death. Those surviving him are: Charles, James and Bert of the state of Washington, George of Williston, N.D., Harry of Chinook, Mont., and Mrs. Stella Gribble, Mrs. Mable Westrom and Mrs. Myrtle Stark of Washington.
His first companion passed away December 1, 1895. He was again united in marriage to Mrs. Rosetta Mickle, January 1, 1898. His second wife passed away in 1919.
For the past several years the deceased has made his home with his step-son, Henry Mickle, who with four other step-children mourn his death. They are: Oren, Edward and Raymond of Boone, and Richard of Des Moines. He leaves also to mourn his passing two sister, Mrs. Anna Tyndahl of Sioux City, Iowa and Mrs. Dave Salisbury of Ellensburg, Washington, and one brother, Harvery Cassteel of Lamar, Colorado. Several grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many other relatives and friends.
Out of town relatives coming from a distance to attend the last rites were Mrs. Anna Tyndahl of Sioux City, Iowa and Mrs. Myrtle Stark of Ellensburg, Washington.
