Dorothy Leola Allen, 86, passed away at the LifeCare Medical Center in Roseau, MN on July 31, 2008.

Dorothy was born on Feb. 18, 1922 in Watertown, NY to Irving Erwin Casselman and Leata Mae Murray. Dorothy was a twin, Donald being the other twin. Her brothers, Donald, Robert and Darrance, as well as her parents Erving and Leta all preceded Dorothy in death.

Dorothy lived most of the first half of her life in Albion, NY. She attended the cobblestone one room schoolhouse on Gaines Basin Road, near the Erie Canal Bridge, up until the 8th grade, and then she attended the "big" high school in Albion, NY for further education.

Dorothy loved animals from an early age; throughout her adult life Dorothy has had pet crows (Amus and Andy), parakeets', tropical fish, and many, many dogs. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting, bowling, crossword puzzles, scrabble and reading the classics.

Dorothy wrote a "social" column for the Albion Advertiser for a while, and then worked for Bemis Bag Company for many years. Dorothy had attended the Methodist Church in Albion; she was a past member of the Albion VFW and a current member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. As a young adult, Dorothy enjoy the "round and square" dances that were held every Saturday night throughout western New York state.

Dorothy met Joseph Willard Allen in mid-life and married, they spent most of their married years in Park Hills, MO. Joe died about 20 years ago, making Dorothy a widow. Several years ago Dorothy's health began to fail. For the last 1 ½ years she has lived at the Warroad Care Center, where she thrived and enjoyed visits from her beloved dog, "Duke".

Dorothy is survived by her half sister, Elfreda and brother in-law James Stangland both of Baudette, MN; many nieces and nephews and her beloved dog, "Duke".

A memorial service is being planned and will take place in Albion, NY at a later date.

Interment will be in the Transit Cemetery in Albion, NY.
