CARTER, Allan Red Deer Advocate Red Deer
CARTER Allan Leroy (Bud) Carter passed away on Good Friday, March 25th, 2005, thirty-six days short of his 87th Birthday. Bud was born to James Leroy Carter and Mary Taylor in Chinook, Alberta on April 30th, 1918. He came to Lacombe as a 10 year old boy and lived his entire life there. As a young man Bud was very athletic and participated in all sports. Bud served overseas in the Royal Canadian Army as a B.Q. M.S. of the 44th Battery, Unit 22/78 Field Battery RCA CA from 1940 until 1946. Upon his return Bud married Lavina Falkenberg, the love of his life, on September 7th, 1946, and spent 58 years of wedded bliss with her. Their early years together were filled with lots of curling, golfing, refereeing hockey all around the country, and spoiling their beloved bulldog, Tootsie. When daughter Kathy joined the little family Bud spent many wonderful years enjoying a busy family life, excelling at golf and living his life on his own gentle terms. The highlight of Bud's life was when his only grandchild David arrived. Bud's sense of humor, blunt outspoken attitude, and overall kindness and generosity will forever be remembered. Bud retired from the Lacombe Post Office at the age of 64 and enjoyed many years of retirement with Lavina and his family. Bud was a very private man and an extremely devoted husband, father and grandfather. Bud was never sick or hospitalized until he turned 75 and then many years of health challenges followed. The entire time he remained dignified and gracious and very grateful to all who cared for him. During his final hours at the Red Deer Regional Hospital he continued to thank everyone for his of her tender care. He remained true to the end, trying so hard to get well so he could get home again to look after his beloved "Mama." When Bud's final hours came he enjoyed the beautiful harmonies of the Red Deer Hospital Chaplains at his bedside. He looked into the eyes of Chaplain Jim and told him; "He gave me 86 years and a wonderful woman to share them with. I am a lucky, lucky man." Bud is survived by his loving wife, Lavina, his wonderful daughter and devoted son-in-law, Kathy and Harold Drok of Red Deer, his treasured and cherished grandson, David Drok of Victoria, British Columbia and his favorite feline companion Charlie. Bud is also survived by many extended family members. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Dorothy. The last six weeks of Bud's life were primarily spent in the Lacombe Hospital and Lavina has spent most of that time there as a patient as well. Due to ongoing health challenges for Lavina, a celebration of Bud's life will be held later this spring on May 21, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. at the Kozy Korner in Lacombe. This will give Lavina a time to heal from her injuries and participate in the day. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association #6, 5015 - 48th Street, Red Deer, AB T4N 1S9 or a charity of the donor's choice. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to: [email protected] (Subject: Carter) WILSON'S FUNERAL CHAPEL serving Central Alberta with locations in Lacombe and Rimbey in charge of the arrangements. 403-782-3366 or 403-843-3388.
