Gaylord B. (Carter) Bement of Milwaukie was born June 13, 1942, in Portland. She was finally freed of Alzheimer's disease March 23, 2011, and was blessed to go to heaven to celebrate her 30th wedding anniversary with her loving husband. Gay lived in Milwaukie for the past 30 years, and had previously resided in Redland. Gay was married to Ken Bakke in 1960 and through that marriage had three daughters: Carol, Cathy and Cindy. She then married Dick Bement in 1981 and gained a stepson, Tim. Gay's love of water sports began with the Portland Water Ski Club back in the 60's and continued with Columbia Speedboat Club and Seattle Drag & Ski Boat Club until her death. Gay is survived by Carol Ransom of Portland; Cathy and Tom Struck of Damascus; Cindy Bakke of Gladstone; Tim Bement of Portland; Nancy Carter of Bakersfield, Calif.; and Manuel Morena of Weston, Fla. She enjoyed six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick; her parents; a son-in-law; a great-grandchild; and a sister. Her final resting place will be in Willamette National Cemetery next to her husband. Interment will be private. A celebration of Gay's life will be held at a later time. (The Oregonian, 31 Mar 2011)
