GODFREY — Rosemary Kathryn Quade Carson, 94, went to be with her Lord and Savior and her beloved husband Loyd on March 30, 2016, at the United Methodist Village in Godfrey. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, friend, volunteer and Christian.

Rosemary was born on July 26, 1921, in Brownstown, Illinois, to Frank and Edith Quade. She graduated from Brownstown High School in 1939, and from Eastern Illinois State Teachers College in 1941. She married Loyd Carson on June 5, 1942. Loyd was 11 years older than Rosemary. Her friends told her she was marrying an old man and would end up taking care of him. Loyd and Rosemary took care of each other until his death in 2013 at the age of 103.

Rosemary taught one year and had to resign after she was no longer a single woman as stipulated by her contract. She substituted and did home teaching for the Alton School District while making a career of raising four daughters, supporting her church, and volunteering. She loved sewing and made her daughters' clothes and countless Barbie outfits. Her husband said he could never have had his successful career without her running their household.

Rosemary loved her church where she played the organ for 55 years, delivered Meals on Wheels and was active in the United Methodist Women. She was a regular fixture at the Alton Memorial Hospital Information Desk for over 25 years. Her kindness, smile and amazing attitude will be remembered.

Surviving are daughters and spouses: Dr. Sandra Stanley, Marcia (Rodney) Thornton, Becky (Jim) Whiteside, and Paula Carson (Dennis Wilson). Grandchildren and spouses are: Jay H. Stanley, Chris (Holly) Thornton, Jerod Thornton (Lindsay Brauer), Jennifer (Darren) Wright, Erin (Jim) Woolley, Jeff (Kayla) Whiteside, Steven Carson Sulzer, Michael Carson Sulzer, and Megan Carson Sulzer. Great-grandchildren are: Piper Stanley; Zachary Thornton; Sophia and Amelia Wright; Eleanor, James, and Josephine Woolley; Emerson and Reagan Whiteside and baby Wright due in July.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, brother John, husband Loyd, and son-in law, Dr. Jay Stanley.

Godfrey First United Methodist Church. Her ashes were interred in the church prayer garden.

Memorials may be made to the church organ fund.
