Birth: May 24, 1918
Death: Oct. 18, 2009

Wednesday, October 21, 2009 Mildred May Carroll passed away peacefully Oct. 18, 2009, with family by her side. She is survived by her husband of almost 64 years, Arthur Carroll, of Roswell; daughter, Mary Munkelwitz, of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Brian, Jennifer, Allison and Kevin Munkelwitz, all of Albuquerque; and sister-in-law, Kathleen Armbruster, of Hershey, Penn.
Mildred was born to Thomas and Florence Armbruster in Allentown, Penn., on May 24, 1918. She proudly served in the Navy during World War II, primarily based in Washington, D.C. Her husband an Army man, the house was always filled with good-natured Army-Navy rivalry.
After marrying Arthur in November 1945, the couple moved to Long Island, N.Y. Mildred found joy working for the Elwood School District for almost 20 years. She also was very involved in the church and for many years was a member of the choir as well as the Rosary Altar Society.
In 1984, Arthur and Mildred retired to Roswell. Mildred made many friends as a volunteer at Casa Maria and Eastern New Mexico Medical Center. Always by Arthur's side, Mildred enjoyed participating in Knights of Columbus events and cheering her husband on from the sidelines during the Senior Olympics.
Mildred's greatest accomplishment in life was being a devoted wife and mother. After becoming a grandma, she took on the role whole-heartedly, doting on her grandchildren every chance she got. Stubbornly selfless and unrelenting in love, Mildred had a heart of gold and her greatest joy came from caring for her family. Though now in heaven with her Lord and among the angels, she will always be in our hearts and will live on in our memories.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Lisa, Stacy and Angel from Vista Care Hospice and all the staff at Villa del Rey Assisted Living for their gentle care and loving support of Mildred. Your kindness and devotion toward the family will always be remembered.
Friends may visit 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at Ballard Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at Assumption Catholic Church.
