U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Fairfield Seminary, received an civil engineering degree from Union College, in 1846 and was a school teacher. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1848 and commenced to practice law in Broadalbin, New York. He was the prosecuting attorney of Fulton County, (1859-62). In 1871, he was elected as a Democrat to the Forty-second Congress, serving until 1873. Declining to be a candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death at age 78.
