Dr. E. T. Carnes
Dr. E. T. Carnes, the well known dentist, died at his residence here Wednesday, January 5th, aged 39 years. Dr. Carnes had been in bad health for some time and about two weeks ago became confined to his home. His death was due to tuberculosis.
The deceased was born at Auburn, Ill., in 1871 and came to Hood River about fifteen years ago. He is survived by his wife and a son.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon in the chapel of Bartmess undertaking establishment and were conducted by Mrs. O. P. Dabney and Rev. W. C. Gilmore. Interment in Idlewild cemetery.

Dr. E. T. Carnes died Wednesday, January 6, at his home in this city after having been ill with consumption for a number of years. He had made a long hard fight against the disease to which he finally succumbed. He made two trips to Arizona several years ago and was benefitted to some extent. Dr. Carnes was forced to give up much if his dental practice on account of his health but did all he was able to, finishing some work as late as the week before his death.
The deceased was born in Auburn, Illinois, January 4, 1871. He came west to Portland in 1889 and in that city he received his dental education and resided until 1893 when he came to Hood River. He made many friends here and was a man of high standing in the community. He was married in 1896 to Miss Martha Gatchett, of Portland, who with one son, Clarence, survives him. Mrs. Elizabeth English, mother of Dr. Carnes, lives in McCune, Kansas. Two brothers, William and Leslie Carnes and a sister, Mrs. Fannie Wilson, also reside in McCune.
The funeral was held Friday afternoon at the Bartmess Chapel and was in charge of the Christian Science church, assisted by Rev. W. C. Gilmore. The pall-bearers were J. H. Ferguson, Bert Graham, Ed Faust, Carl Ross, Delbert Rand and W. W. Cotton. The interment took place at Idlewilde.
