Agnes Elizabeth Anderson, 95, passed away on November 14, 2013 at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems Northland Nursing Home in Barron, Wisconsin. Agnes was born on February 4, 1918, the fourth of ten children to Sigurd and Lillian (Olson) Carlson in Chetek, Wisconsin. For many years she worked for the Automatic Electric Co. in Chicago. It was there that she met Arthur Anderson, a widower with two teen-aged daughters. When they married in February, 1961, she took on the responsibility of being a step-mother, a challenge she successfully met with courage and kindness. They lived in Wheaton, Illinois, until retirement in 1972, when they moved to rural Hayward, Wisconsin. Arthur died in 1980 and a few years later Agnes moved to Barron, Wisconsin to be closer to her sisters and brothers. She was a devout Lutheran all her life and most recently was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Barron. Her kindness, patience and gentleness endeared her to neighbors and colleagues wherever she lived and worked. As friend, sister, wife, mother and grandparent she devoted herself to making a warm, welcoming home. In any situation, such as working as a nurse's aide or volunteering at the food pantry, her primary concern was attending to the welfare and comfort of others. She is survived by Step-Daughters Susan (Charles) LaCoi of Wausaukee, WI, Judith Anderson of Chicago, IL, four Step-Grandchildren, ten Step-Great-Grandchildren, and two Step-Great-Great-Grandchildren, Sisters Ruth (James) Anderson of Barron, Naomi Post of Clarion, IA, Dorothy (Dean) Ostlie of Northfield, MN, brothers Christian Carlson of Chetek, Martin Carlson of Chetek, and also many Nieces, Nephews & Cousins. Ruth was preceded in death by her Parents, Husband Arthur, and Sisters Sigrid, Iduna, Matilda and Esther. Visitation will be held at the First Lutheran Church in Barron from 10-11am on Monday, November 18, 2013. Services will follow visitation at 11am on Monday, November 18 at the Church.
