Edward Russell Carlson, Sr., 79, died at 9:25 AM Monday, July 23, 2001, in St. Elizabeth Medical Center. Born Jan. 8, 1922, in Lafayette, he was a life resident and a graduate of Jefferson High School. He married Elizabeth E. Loft on June 4, 1947, in Lafayette; she survives.

Mr. Carlson was a machinist in the Purdue University aerospace science laboratory for 26 years. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 10th Mountain Division. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and gardening.

Surviving with his wife are a son, Edward Carlson, Jr. (wife Cozette); one sister, Olive May, both of Lafayette; and three grandchildren. Preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
