M. Agnes Bartholomew, a resident for 60 years of South Bend, Ind., died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at a retirement center in Waco, Texas, after a short period of illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Notre Dame.

Mary Agnes was born in Summitville, Ohio, to the late Thomas and Mary Carey. On June 13, 1933, she married Dr. Paul C. Bartholomew, a professor at the University of Notre Dame for 45 years. She was a charter member of the Ladies of Notre Dame and also was active in both the Christ Child Society and the Circle of Mercy. She was a member of the St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary and had been an active member of the Sacred Heart Parish of Notre Dame. Also, among her affiliations was her lifelong membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a brother; and a sister.

She is survived by her sons, Thomas and wife, Catherine, of Whitney, and Robert and wife, Rhoda, of Middleton, Wis.; grandchildren, Ann, Paul, Patrick and Daniel; and a great-granddaughter, Jennifer.
