PHYL BISHOP In the early evening of Good Friday, April 22, 2011, Phyllis Bishop (nee Capper) passed away at home surrounded by family. Phyllis was the loving wife of Charles Edgar Bishop, mother of Frances Rushton, (Michael), John (Gart) Bishop (Alison), grandmother to Gwen Rushton, Matthew Rushton (Sarah), James Rushton, great- grandmother to Abigal and Clare; sister to the late Arthur Capper, aunt to Catherine (John, deceased) Flatt, Margaret (Fred) Lock, Michael (Donna) Capper. Phyllis was born March 11, 1921 in London, Ontario. Her parents Ralph Cedric Capper and Helen Martha (nee Spencer) moved to Mitchell when Phyllis and her twin brother Art were five. She was fond of saying that Mitchell was her home town. Following graduation she enrolled in Normal school and spent the next ten years teaching in various communities in southern Ontario. She was at the Duke of York School in Toronto when she met Charl. Together they established lifelong friendships with friends from the Duke of York and with neighbours of their home and church in Thornhill. Phyl was an avid gardener and produced many creative flower arrangements, as well as being an honorary life member of the Thornhill Horticultural Society. She was a member of a book club, nature club and numerous bridge clubs. She was active in St. Patrick's Church in many capacities over the years particularly as a member of the 'Loose Group' where she made lasting friendships. She enjoyed experimenting with new recipes and giving frequent dinner parties. Charl and Phyl enjoyed their international travels to the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia and Indonesia, as well as trips to Arizona with Jean and Bob Briggs and the Caribbean with Joan and Tony Hayes. During the past eight months Phyl celebrated two significant milestones, her sixtieth wedding anniversary and her ninetieth birthday. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 27 at St. Patrick's Anglican Church (1087 Lillian Street, Toronto) at 2 p.m. with visitation beginning at 1 p.m. If desired, donations can be made to the North York General Hospital, Geriatric Unit.
