Treva was born to her loving parents Reta Brock Canary and Roy Canary and raised on the Kansas prairie where she grew like a beautiful wild sunflower on her family's farm near the small town of Fall Leaf, KansasHer best friend as a child was her favorite pony, Boney Pony (although he wasn't, she would now add)Sadly, both her parents died at a young age and young Treva newly orphaned became, as she said, her own bossShe packed an old suitcase and drug it along the sidewalks of Eudora, Kansas knocking on doors trying to find someone who would take her infinally a widow lady with three daughters of her own who herself was eking out a meager living making and selling cakes in the depths of The Great Depression, looked kindly upon young Treva and opened her heart and home to her and continued to help her for many more years down the road Treva attended a one room schoolhouse near Fall Leaf for the first eight grades then graduated from high school in Eudora and finally attended the University of Kansas, where she majored in Modern DanceTreva loved dance She worked for a year at the Hercules Power Plant after college and then married Eugene Maxwell, her loving and loyal husband of 62 yearswith World War II as a backdrop the young couple moved from place to place as the Gene's military service demandedthey met many wonderful people and shared many memorable adventuresultimately, Gene entered the oil business and the young couple began a family while moving from hither to yon, notably to Midland, Texas, Wichita, Kansas, and Golden, Colorado before putting down deep and permanent roots in Houston Treva was a very sweet, friendly, and helpful personshe just loved people She enjoyed many interests and activities during her long wonderful life she joined the Delphian Club soon after moving to Houston were she made many lifelong friendsshe was active at the St. Phillip's Presbyterian Church as a Sunday School teacher and as a volunteer in the church's kitchenshe always looked forward to the meetings of the Ladies Circle at St. Phillip'sshe was also active in the Geowives Club For many, many years Treva was a talented and dedicated quiltershe always seemed to be working on a new and complex quilt and over the years she created many beautiful quilts, most of which she gave to others as gifts Treva was primarily a wonderful mother and homemakershe was the center of her family's universe...she raised her children with great wisdom and unconditional loveshe was a fun and generous mother who took great interest and pride in the activities of her familyher children were absolutely blessed to have such a lovely person for a motherand she was a magician in the kitchenshe created scores of delicious meals over the years with artistry and love But mainly, Treva Canary Maxwell was a sweet and wonderful woman who simply just loved peopleshe will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her She leaves her cherished memories with her daughters Rebecca Lynn and husband Bob, Cathy Fairchild and husband Bruce, and son James Maxwellas well as her grandsons Michael and Chadley Atwood and granddaughter Lindsay Fairchild
